This is the tour Diary, I wrote for My Last Chapter Zine about our tour with defloration and burning butthairs in 2011. sadly enough the zine is dead now, so here's the diary:
Day One – 09/30/2011 – Leipzig – Die Villa e.V.
Dear diary, today we're starting the Dirty Sanchez Tour 2011 with Burning Butthairs, Profanation
and Defloration. And what's the best way to start it? Attending grandma's funeral,, right. King
Diamond would have loved it. After that I catch up with the band in Dresden. We have to carry the
whole backline for the tour so my Dacia with trailer nearly passes for long vehicle. 5 guys plus bags
plus lots of equipment – ride the comfortable way. But we're used to pain and arrive at the club in
Leipzig early.
„Die Villa“ is a sociocultural center in the heart of the city. In the cellar there's a really good
location for gigs, with stage and PA and an experienced sound engineer. So we get our stuff on stage
fast and soundcheck, as we're playing second spot today and are the first band of the evening with a
real drummer. In the meantime the other bands arrive: Burning Butthairs from Erfurt with Marlis,
who was the main force behind making the tour possible, Defloration from Pößneck and Invocation,
the local heroes tonight. After the meet&greet and devastating the catering, all are ready to deliver
some brutality upon the Leipzig crowd.
A good 200 people are there and Burning Butthairs start the evening with their funny porngrind.
Lacking a real drummer, they have to rely on a digital pleasure slave, hidden in Marlis' laptop, to
deliver the blasts. The sound tonight really kicks ass, and the Butthairs in the fog (fog machines are
a pain) are superbly received by the banging and moshing audience. Social critical songs like „Die
Axt in Dein Gesicht“ and the inofficial tour hymn with „Dirty Sanchez“ shouts, are a perfect warm-
up for the things to come. Profanation enter the stage and we're really delighted, great stage sound, great audience, so we're just going full speed ahead and blast all 13 songs into the night. Especially the new songs from the upcoming „Contorted Bodies In Pain“
are hell to play and get great reactions.
Invocation are well known around here and have no problems to keep the energy level up with their
brutal old school death metal. A band to remember.
And finally curtains fall for headlining Defloration. Whoever saw them once, will remember the
giant frontman Uwe who's just going berserk on stage and really interacts with the crowd. The tight
playing band delivers their intense death metal songs to create the perfect soundtrack to the demise
of the western civilisation.
After the show, there's enough time for chatting with the fans and relaxing backstage.
Accomodation for the night is pretty funny as we are given a closed envelope and sent to a
establissement called „Flower Power“ some blocks away, a bar that's open all night. „Take the
envelope to the barkeeper and he'll know what to do...“ that's what we were told. And indeed, we
are led upstairs to an appartment where the bar has some 10-bed rooms for cheap accomodation.
Whether you're too drunk to go home, need a space for sexual fun or are a band in need for sleep or
all of the above...you find it here. In the morning, a solemn sight can be seen: Uwe's standing naked
at the window, telling the people down at the street to shut up and go fuck themselves. Even the
gods must tremble with fear at this.
Cunning Butthairs did right by hiring a camper for the tour, so they got their sleeping place right in
front of the club...
Day two – 10/01/2011 – Erfurt – From Hell
Despite the circumstances the night's been refreshing and we're up early to find some breakfast and
start the journey towards Erfurt. It's absolutely hot this day, so we ask Marlis if he can recommend a
bathing lake near Erfurt. So we (Profanation) end up at Hohenfelden Stausee, swimming a few
miles, playing football like the national team of the Maledives and just relaxing in the sun. Could
have played the child's birthday taking place that day, too, but for whatever strange reason, they
didn't ask us. What a great holiday feeling such a tour can hold.
Nevertheless we're a professional working band (bet on it!!!) and so make it to the club in time.
„From Hell“ is an old tavern near Erfurt airport and holds a really big concert hall. They often do
metal gigs, so make sure you go there if you're in town.
Catering is roast pork to the delight of all meateaters. Thumbs up for that. Jeff and Alex warm up
their voices singing a capella bar jazz versions of some of our songs. When you're familiar with the
lovely lyrics, you can imagine how much fun we had...
Opening band tonight is Vintera a local death metal band. They really do a solid job, but the
audience tonight is just frozen. Problem is, they won't melt to anything this evening. Butthairs have to face the problem, that the drum computer is much too quiet
in the mix and really have to fight
through the set. Profanation and Defloration kick ass, but seemingly of no one in the audience this
evening. Uwe points it out like this: „I feel like I'm at the pet cemetary!“ Still one exception has to
be mentioned. Our good friend Ronny, devastator of wheelchairs is just banging his head off.
Cheers from us to you, Ronny.
Despite of the low-key reactions, merch sales are pretty good, so maybe it was just an overall
tiredness that paralyzed the crowd, due to some evil black metal show the night before.
This night we stay at Marlis' home where we can kneel before his Butthairs shrine, fight for the best
place to lay our heads or just exchange anecdotes 'til deep in the night.
Day three – 10/02/2011 – Chemnitz – Sanitätsstelle
Woke up to an extraordinary breakfast, prepared by Marlis' girlfriend. A big thank you from all of
Profanation to „Frau Wagner“. After surviving the long line before the shower and becoming
socially acceptable (uhhm....nearly...) again, we jump our car like the Dukes and head for the next
place to disturb.
The club lies in an old GDR industry complex and was, as the name says, the first aid station. We
come to witness the remains of a party the night before and a whole bunch of disco chicks cleaning
up. So we decide to check the cultural wealth of Chemnitz. At least, some bandpics in front of Karl
Marx and a good pizza can be added to the pros side.
Back to the club, it's a small but really well equipped place with everything you can ask for. Gothic
Romania join us as opening band from...well, you guessed it. They open the evening with melodic
death metal and some outstanding guitar parts by their leadguitarrist. Sadly the songs are a bit too
long and don't kick ass in my opinion. Sound this night is really brilliant for any band and so we all
deliver great shows while the crowd of 50 people goes mad. So much for the good experiences.
Now for something completely different: Dear organizer, why do you add a band to the billing (this
is nothing against Gothic Romania, they're great guys), that gets an fixed fee and tell 3 bands they
get all beyond break even? A point that never could be reached at that small a location. This way we
stood there with all the expenses and simply got nothing. That ain't the way to treat the bands.
Ok, back to the tour. Accomodation for us and Defloration was some mattresses in the industry
building nearby. Made it a good time with drinking and chatting.
Day four – 10/03/2011 – Berlin – The Ace Club
Another fine morning and we decide to join Defloration for brunch at a chinese restaurant. All-you-
can-eat for 10 euros – the best way to start your day. Imagine a dozen of dark people, chinese dinner
music, empty plates... Surely a solemn sight to all other guests.
Won the race towards Berlin as we were the only ones wo didn't get into a traffic jam on the way.
„The Ace“ is a fine club at an S-Bahn station in Berlin Wedding. Very Rock'n'Roll decorated and
homely to any metal fan. Don't miss it, when you're in town.
Problem today is, that - maybe because of the long weekend with 3 possible party nights – just 4
people show up. Even more funny: 3 we know personally and one from Jena. So backstage we have
to decide what to do now. In the end Butthairs and ourselves do just public rehearsal shows, playing
like 5 songs each. All make the best of the situation and rage around the club. It's just a great party.
After that we're all just chilling and sleeping on the sofas at the place.
Day five – 10/04/2011 – Berlin – Day off
Had a small breakfast at „The Ace“. Now all three bands move to the tent station in the heart of
Berlin, where we stay 'til wednesday. Team up with Defloration again, while the Butthairs decide to
relax at their camper. Take a sightseeing tour – Reichstag building, Brandenburger Tor, ATM,
Hackescher Markt. A good story has to be told from the Brandenburger Tor: a new way for beggars
seems to be putting on a stone masquerade and lie down in front of famous buildings (encounter the
same thing some days later in Hamburg). Some of us decide to lie down next to the stone figure and
the rest is just filming and taking pictures. You should have seen the faces of the passing tourists
from around the world. After the strife through the most famous places, we're more and more
breaking apart into smaller groups, doing what they like. Me and Christoph decide to have a good
traditional meal and afterwards return to the tent station for a relaxing evening with the Butthairs.
One after another returns, too or has to be returned. As Försti, drummer of Defloration just got dead
drunk this evening and has to be brought back by cab.
Day six – 10/05/2011 – Bremen – Römer
Just before our departure from the site, we meet Bonnie and the dirty dozen, some backpackers
from the UK who were real fun to talk to. If you're in need of a brainfuck just look out for them.
Hollywood blockbusters like „Saving Private Dancer“ rely on their ideas...
The ride to Bremen turns out to be a bit cursed by a rotting smell that remains, even as we put all
dirty clothes and shoes into the trailer. What the hell...
Arriving at the „Römer“, we find the place still not prepared for a gig. „I wasn't sure you're
coming.“ is the organizers answer to our reactions. Next point is: „Because of that I didn't prepare
catering.“ Shit happens. Touring isn't always about fun.
In the end the club is prepared for the show real fast, the PA is good so everything else goes to plan.
We really enjoy our gig and despite the reserved reactions of the crowd, they seem to like it a lot.
Sell good at the merch and get really great responses. That builds us up very much, being the first
time we played Bremen. After the show, the club has to be cleaned real fast and we enter our
accomodation at a youth hostel, as we're tired as fuck. Defloration and Alex decide on doing some
nightseeing in Bremen. After visiting the town hall with the famous animal musicians, on the way
back, they encounter a fan who missed out on the show. Wanting to share a drink he follows them to
the hostel and tries to climb up to their balcony. Romeo and Juliet's a pure metal story... A threat to
call the police makes him go at last. Finally it's time for sleep. Nice gesture from Alex, whose
extraordinarily harmonic sounding snoring keeps all others awake from the moment he's asleep.
Day seven – 10/06/2011 – Rostock - Meli
Day starts with looking for a music store, as some parts of Luxls drums broke. Thanks to a nice
employee of Musik produktiv Bremen we find one that has all needed stuff, just 20 km away.
Now it was time to head for Rostock. Got there early, just to face the next problems. The guy who
organized the show is currently in Kiev and no one at the club knows anything about the
arrangements made by him and Marlis. That means: No catering, no accomodation and an amount
of 100 euro to manage that for 16 people. Simply impossible. Luckily the deflorationists come up
with the brilliant idea to call Stefan from Klex Greifswald, our next stop. He agrees to let us sleep
there one day earlier. Only problem is, that someone has to get the keys 2 minutes to midnight. So
Defloration decide to be opener tonight and drive to Greifswald straight after their show.
The Meli is a student club with a small room for gigs. The stage is damn small too, so some of the equipment has to be placed around it and the singer has to stand
in the audience area. Defloration
start their show and absolutely kick ass. Maybe because they're pissed off by the circumstances
there's an energy unleashed upon the crowd. They respond enthusiastically to raging Uwe and his
killer command. The place is completely destroyed afterwards, not to be taken literally, haha.
Seems like the audience needs some rest now. Bad for the Butthairs, as most are outside during their
show. But they play on bravely and the sound tonight is really good, comforting their tunes.
As we enter stage, the crowd seems to have regenerated enough as the intensity nearly reaches the
same level as the Defloration show. Especially the jumping jack using up the whole area has to be
mentioned. For the encore „Consequence“, Martin, the Butthairs leadsinger, joins us and this sets
the final high point tonight. Thanks to the great crowd, the evening feels like a success despite all
the problems. After the show it's just loading the trailer fast and drive to Greifswald.
Day eight – 10/07/2011 – Greifswald – Klex
The advantage of being at the place already is, that we can play tourist today. So Luxl, Christoph
and I take a ride to Peenemünde and visit the museum about the Army Research Center, where for
example the V2 was created and tested. A visit to the Baltic Sea and a greek lunch complete our day.
The „Klex“ is simply a perfect place to be with your band. Much sleeping spaces, showers, a
kitchen, washer – it's all there. Not to mention the exceptional catering and the great people to meet
here. A huge thank you and greetings to everyone at the „Klex“. You rule.
Club's PA is perfect, too, so it's just great circumstances. The only low point is, that only 40 people
attend the show today. But all bands deliver some of the best shows of the tour to the well receiving
audience. I have to mention especially Defloration, as it seems they're cursed, as nearly all of them
caught a bad cough or worse. Regardless of that, they blow the speakers this night.
The after-show party turns out exceptional with lots of booze, lapdancing chicks and metal 'til late
in the morning. Inbetween Chris going berserk as his camera isn't where he left it. Full of
tourphotos it would be such a loss. Asking if anyone has seen it, checking every tiny hole of the
club but it remains unseen. Cursing about thieves he's finally falling into sleep late.
Day nine – 10/08/2011 – Hamburg – Bambi Galore
Chris is the first awake, still searching. Breakfast at the club is fine and it gets even better for Chris
as Defloration merch girl Celi discovers his camera in her bag where she kept it from stealing.
Strange thing was, she didn't know she had it at the after-show-party. Guess why...Too bad, the tour is almost over. At noon we hit the road to Hamburg and get
there real soon. As we
arrive at the club at 4 p.m., it's still locked. So we just leave the trailer and go for the heart of the
city. Spend 2 hours visiting the port, checking out fish sandwiches, and some sightseeing around
there. Fuck...all those goddamn tourists everywhere...
The Bambi Galore is in a suburban area of Hamburg. Still a very fine location that often do metal
shows. Seems it's been lacking in attendance lately. So organizer Flo feels a bit pissed off by the
underground scene, fearing the closing of the metal chapter for the club. To everyone in the HH
area: Support your local scene!
Opener is BloodVorteX, a deathgrind band from the near area. They play a very diverse blend of
death metal with many different influences. Problem today is, that the sound is much too muddy
and bassy and the crowd seems to be more into brutal blasting stuff. The sound remains the only
problem this evening. Final shows of all bands are quite ok. Butthairs get some support by Alex and
Uwe for the Dirty Sanchez hymn, we have Martin again for „Consequence“ and Defloration kill
down their illnesses for another blast. We are especially delighted at the moshpit that was really
barbaric through our set. Circumstances are just perfect, but too little audience. Sorry for that, Flo
and thanks a lot for all your good work. While I take a nap in the car to be fit for the ride home,
everyone else has a fine after-show-party.
Day ten – 10/09/2011 – Going Home
Getting woken up at 8 a.m. by the rest of the gang, we decide to have our breakfast at the booked
youth hostel instead of sleeping there. Afterwards heading straight home as it's 600 km and you
can't go too fast with the trailer. All are asleep...well, except for one. So it's a calm ride and it should
take us until Dresden where we discover a stinking pair of socks the Butthairs slipped into our car.
What's that smell, that rotten smell... Thanks for nothing, dudes. Be prepared for revenge.
This whole tour has been a great experience for all of us. It's not always easy for smaller bands to
plan and as you could see, there's often problems arising from nowhere. In the end it only makes
you stronger and experience grows. So once again a very huge THANK YOU to Marlis from the
Butthairs, without whom this tour would never have been possible. Thanks to everyone at the clubs
and all who helped. Greetings to our buddies in Defloration and Burning Butthairs.
We'll be back soon with our new album „Contorted Bodies In Pain“, to be released by Mad Lion
Records in november.
Cheerz!
